I am seriously so excited to be sharing this easy DIY marble coasters tutorial with you all today. You’ll never believe just how easy it is to create the perfect marble look on almost any surface with the awesomeness that is Marabu Easy Marble paint. It’s almost like magic! I went with these super easy marble coasters for my first project but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to add that gorgeous marble look to almost anything!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY marble coasters:
- Unfinished MDF Coasters
- White Chalk Paint
- Marabu Easy Marble Paint (I used white and black)
- Gloves (or some other sort of hand protection)
- Plastic Tub
- Craft Stick
Apply a light coat of white paint to the surface and edges of the coasters. It doesn’t have to be perfect coverage since the Marabu Easy Marble Paint will also be coating the coaster. The base coat is just there to make sure none of the brown sneaks through after marbling.
Once the base coat had dried completely, you’re ready to start preping the marble paint! Pour some room temperature water into the plastic tub. You may want to lay some paper towels down under your tub just in case some of the water or paint drips. Drop a few drops of white paint into the water. Add a few drops of the black paint. Use a popsicle stick to swirl the colors together until you’re happy with the look. You want to create a section of paint on the water that’s large enough to cover the surface of the coaster.
Making sure you’re wearing gloves or other hand protection (a plastic baggie works in a pinch!), lower the coaster into the water and then lift out. Place on a paper towel off to the side. Remove any excess paint in the water with another piece of paper towel. Repeat steps 2 & 3 with the remaining coasters.
Hint: I ended up repeating all of the steps a second time with the coasters because I wasn’t happy with the initial coverage on some of them. It ened up creating a more realistic “marble” look because of the different shades of gray, white, and black. This step is totally optional but I was really happy with the look!
I can’t believe how simple it was to make these DIY marble coasters! I’m absolutely in love with Marabu Easy Marble paints and can’t wait to apply this technique to other surfaces.
Hope you have as much fun working with these paints as I did!
