Summer days are here and I’m frantically trying to find fun craft projects to fill my kids’ days! One of my favorite crafts is making these DIY foam stamps because the benefits are two-fold. They have a good time designing and fabricating the rollers and then the fun continues as they start printmaking. You can even have them roll out their designs on blank greeting cards or wrapping paper to use for later! Win/win for everyone.
Supplies needed to make DIY foam stamps:
- 9 inch Wood Rolling Pin
- Extra Thick Foam Sheets
- Permanent Foam Glue
- Blank Note Cards (optional)
- Brown Kraft Paper Roll (optional)
- Ranger Reusable Craft Sheet
Step 1. Whether you’re doing this project with kids or by yourself, the first step is decided what pattern you’ll be making. I decided to go super easy with my first stamp roller and went with alternating straight lines. If you want to be precise, use a ruler and pen to mark the foam and then some scissors to cut out.
Step 2. Foam strips are ready to be glued!
Step 3. Spread glue on the back of the foam strips and put aside to dry.
Step 4. Repeat glue lines on wood rulers and put aside to dry completely.
Step 5. Once the glue has dried, press the foam stripes onto the wood roller. Place aside until the stamp is fully dry and secure.
Step 6. Of course, you can try other shapes as well! I cut out these little cross marks and they turned out to be my favorite.
Step 7. Using the foam glue requires more time but is appropriate for young children. If you’re doing this by yourself or with older children (8+), you can use a low temp glue gun to adhere the foam to the wood rulers. So much quicker!
Step 8. Now that your DIY Foam Stamp Rulers are completed, you and your kids can start making prints! I used blank cards in this tutorial but would also love to make some wrapping paper.
Step 9. Squeeze out some paint on a reusable craft sheet and roll the stamp over until covered evenly in paint. You may want to do some practice runs until you’re happy with the look.
I had so much fun making these DIY Foam Stamp Rollers and can’t wait to use my new stationary!
Now, the next time the kids tell me they’re bored, I have a super awesome new craft project to do with them!
