Grab a few supplies and make this DIY bird feeder monogram with your kids this summer. It is a quick and easy project that is perfect for little hands. Plus after it is up in the tree, you can bird watch for a while as your little friends eat the seed from your monogram.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY bird feeder monogram:
- Paper Mache Letter of Your Choice (I used an 8 inch variety)
- Bird Seed
- Honey
- Twine
- Small Screwdriver
- Large Sewing Needle
Start by poking a couple of holes in your letter with a small screwdriver or ice pick. The placement of these is going to depend on your letter. Try to think of locations that will allow your letter to hang evenly.
Thread the jute twine through a needle and push it through the paper mache letter. Tie off the ends. Once you go through both sets of holes you will have a hanger for your DIY bird feeder monogram.
It is time to put on the bird seed. Spread the honey in a thin layer on your surface then add on the bird seed. Be sure all areas are covered. This part is messy so I would suggest doing it on a large cookie sheet outside.
You can literally hang your DIY bird feeder monogram up immediately.
The birds will thank you and the paper mache will likely dissolve in the weather and go back into the earth. It is the perfect kids craft!
How many DIY bird feeder monograms will be hanging from your trees this summer? You could get creative and spell a word or let each child make their own initial. Either way, the kids will love this fun summer boredom buster.
