Today I am sharing another colorful clay craft with you, DIY clay magnets in the shape of adorable rainbows. Ah, the power of clay! There are endless ways to use colored polymer oven bake clay. Everything from trinket dishes, to jewelry, to planters and candles can be made with clay. Of course you can’t ever go wrong with a rainbow, but this same technique can be used to turn any clay creation into a magnet perfect for your fridge or office.
Supplies needed to make your own Rainbow DIY Clay Magnets:
Begin by choosing your rainbow colors. You can stick to traditional colors, or vary it up by making a muted rainbow with creams and light pinks, or an ombre rainbow with shades of the same color of clay. Once you have your colors, work the clay to get it soft, then roll the clay into long 1/8″ thick ropes.
Next, lay the ropes next to each other in rainbow order to create a long rainbow strip. Cut this strip into 4″ long sections and bend the pieces to form the rainbow shape.
Use the X-acto knife to trim the ends of the rainbow. Then repeat to make as many rainbow DIY clay magnets as you like.
Once they are all formed, place the rainbows on the baking sheet and bake at 275F for 15 minutes. Let cool, then use a hot glue gun to attach the magnets to the back of the rainbow.
So easy and so cute! How perfect would these be to make as gifts too?! You could even make a whole assortment of themed magnets. Like a cloud, raindrop, sun, etc to go along with the rainbows! And while I am an adult and had fun with this project, it is also perfect for kids. They can create any design they want, then you can help them bake them and glue on the magnets. They would make the perfect gifts for teachers or grandparents. Don’t you think?
