Everyone loves a good pom pom craft, am I right? But these aren’t your ordinary yarn poms, they are made from one of my favorite craft supplies: oven bake clay! These simple pom pom edged clay DIY coasters are the cutest way to keep your drink from leaving marks on your table. They are easy to customize to your own favorite colors and you can also make them in any shape you can think of! Just a little clay, a rolling pin, and a cookie cutter are all you need to create your own colorful pom pom coasters.
- Oven Bake Polymer Clay
- Rolling Pin (used for crafts only)
- Cookie Cutters (round, square, triangle, etc.)
- Oven Safe Baking Sheet (used for crafts only)
- Polymer Clay Sealant
Begin by rolling out one package of polymer clay until is is about 1.4″ thick.
Then use your cookie cutter to cut out your base coaster shape.
Next, use the remaining clay to roll little ball pom poms. Stick these firmly to the edge of the coaster base and press to adhere. Once you have filled the edge of your coaster with the pom poms, place your clay coasters on your baking sheet and bake at 300F for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool.
The final step is to paint over the coaster with polymer clay sealant to give the coasters a nice waterproof seal. Once the sealant is dry, the coasters are ready to use or gift.
Now doesn’t a drink just look super cute perched on top of these little pom pom edged clay DIY coasters? I could think of no better way than to protect my table top than with these. Now that you have mastered the clay pom pom, you can try making your own pom pom edged trinket dish with the same technique, just place the clay in a shallow oven safe bowl for baking to give it a slight curve.
