Is there anything quite as sweet as this DIY easy organizer? The cheerful sunshine design brings the perfect amount of sun in on even the coldest of winter days! Plus, not only is it adorable, it’s super functional as well. We’re going to use our organizer to store all the library books my kids check out. What would you use one for?
Supplies needed to make your own easy DIY organizer:
- Canvas Pocket Organizer
- DecoArt Fabric Painting Medium
- Darice Acrylic Paint: Orange, Yellow, Coral Reef, Dark Yellow, Pink Blast,
- Cricut® Black Lite Iron On Vinyl Transfer Roll
- Cutting Machine
- “Hello Sunshine” Free Cutting File
Let’s begin making this easy DIY organizer by measuring out the sun and rays. I traced around an 8″ lid for the center of the sun and loosely measured the rays with a large straight edge. Make sure your ruler is long enough to draw the rays from the center of the sun all the way to the outer pockets. I didn’t mind that my sun and rays weren’t perfectly symmetrical. You can definitely pre-measure and plan accordingly if you want something more precise.
Add the fabric medium to the acrylic paint and begin painting in all the rays of light. I alternated canvas with color but you can paint it all in if you’d like. Once you’re done with the rays, paint in the center of the sun. Allow the paint to dry for a full 24 hours before continuing on to the next step.
While the paint dries completely, you can cut out the “Hello Sunshine” free svg file (found in the supply list) with your favorite cutting machine. Once the paint is completely dry, use a heat press or hot iron to preheat the center of the sun. This is an important step that will help release some of the paint moisture so that the vinyl sticks. Follow the manufacture’s instructions for applying the vinyl face.
Repeat manufacture’s instructions to apply the “Hello Sunshine” vinyl to the top of the fabric wall organizer.
I absolutely love how sweet and cheerful this DIY easy organizer for the wall turned out! It’s even cute enough to hang in our hallway so that my kids can easily keep track of their library books. I hope you enjoy making one of your own too!
