My love of gold and geometric shapes knows no bounds. So, it was only natural that for the big day of LOVE I would combine two of my loves to create this gold geometric heart DIY cake topper. And the fact that it goes hand in hand with cake doesn’t hurt either! This heart topper is perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day and would even look super cute atop a wedding cake. All you need are a few supplies and a little time and you’re golden.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY cake topper heart:
Begin by taking your 16 gauge wire and your pliers and bending the wire into a geometric heart shape. It’s easiest if you cut a length of wire (about 16″ should work) and bend it in the middle to create the top point of the heart. Then use your pliers to bend your wire to create your heart shape. At the end twist the wire around itself to create a 2-3″ long tail. This will be the part that you insert into the cake.
Once you have your heart shape, use the thinner wire to wrap the heart. I found it easiest to cut a few feet of wire off of the roll and use that piece to wrap the heart. Then, when that piece was done, cut another piece and continue until it was wrapped to create a nice geometric look.
All that is left now is to buy or make a cake and place the heart DIY cake topper on top. Surround the cake with a few faux or real flowers and you have all your Valentine’s themes in one pretty and tasty package!
You can even make this heart DIY cake topper in a smaller scale to top cupcakes. Or add a necklace chain to a smaller version for a cute Valentine’s Day pendant necklace! Make sure to finish off your Valentine’s Day crafting with this pretty painted DIY wood heart.
