Do you ever feel like wearing something cute makes it more fun to do something you don’t want to do? For example, I don’t like to exercise. I would rather do almost anything than go to the gym. BUT I realize it is healthy and good, so I have had to figure out a way to get motivated. Enter: workout clothing. If I have fun workout clothes, I am much more likely to exercise. Please tell me I’m not alone in this! Cooking is another example of this. I don’t love cooking, but I have to do it. So this embellished apron fabric craft idea is my attempt to make it just a little more enjoyable. Scroll down to see how I made it!
- Plain White Apron
- 1.5″ Ribbon (I used this this Aztec print)
- Fabric Paint
- Embroidery Floss
- Fabric Glue
- Paint Brush
Step 1: Mix the Fabric Creations Ink in a few cups with varying amounts of water to create different shades and consistencies of the ink.
Step 2: Apply the ink in stripes. If you want to be sure the stripes are straight(ish), use some painters tape as a guide, but be aware that it will bleed some. Let the ink dry completely.
Step 3: Cut the neck and waist ties off the apron. Then use fabric glue to apply the ribbon to the neck and waist. Let the glue dry.
Step 5: Make tassels with the embroidery floss, and attach to the apron at the waist. To attach them, I stitched them through the apron and tied knots in the back to keep them firmly in place.
After heat setting the ink (follow the instructions on the bottle), the apron can be washed either by hand or in the gentle cycle.
