It’s that time of year again — graduation time! Will you be throwing a grad party this year? I love a good tassel garland and they remind me of graduation caps. Put the two together and you have a one of a kind party decoration that’s sure to be a hit with your grad. You can use the colors of the school or maybe the school colors of the college they will be attending! What I love most about this DIY tassel garland is you can make it in less than 30 minutes!
Supplies needed to make your own grad DIY tassel garland:
- Tissue Paper (colored or gold).
- Scissors.
- Cardstock.
- Mini Clothespins.
- Cord or Yarn.
- Cutting Machine or Stencils.
Start by unfolding your tissue paper and laying it flat.
Then fold the tissue paper in half. You can fold and cut multiple tissue paper at once to make tassels faster.
Cut tiny strips leaving about an inch of space below the fold line.
Open up your tissue paper and begin to roll up tightly.
Keep on rolling until your tissue paper looks like this.
Grab your cord and wrap the tissue paper around it.
Secure the tissue paper tassel by wrapping and tying yarn around it. Repeat the process with different color tissue paper until your DIY tassel garland is complete. Like I said earlier, you can really personalize this banner by adding their favorite colors, school colors, or even hung up little snapshots of them to it.
I used my Silhouette to quickly cut out the year and hung them up using mini clothespins. You can easily use stencils to cut out your numbers if you do not have a cutting machine. You can also print numbers out on a printer using a program like Picmonkey. Just be sure to print out or stencil your numbers on cardstock to give your numbers some weight.
That’s it! Hang up your DIY tassel garland and enjoy.
