I love anything mini – and these mini wooden cupcake stands are the perfect little stands to showcase DIY cupcake display. These little stands are perfect for showing off cupcakes and cake pops at parties but can also by used to display decor (like inside a skinny glass hurricane). They’re very easy to assemble too! Let me show you how easy it is so you can go make your own.
- 4 Inch Round Wood Plaque
- Unfinished Wood Candle Holders
- E6000 Glue
- White Acrylic Paint or Primer
- Paint Brush
- Vintage Gray-Green Chalk Paint
Step One. To begin making your DIY cupcake display stands, mark the middle of your wooden rounds. Mine measured 4″ (perfect for one cupcake or up to three cake pops) so I just marked the middle which is 2″. You can choose a bigger wooden round if you want a larger stand, such as a 7 inch unfinished round plaque for a cake smash cake stand.
Step Four. Spray paint or paint your cupcake stands with a white base – I used a white primer for convenience. You can also use acrylic paint. You can totally skip this step if you’re not planning to sand it, but since I wanted a shabby chic/distressed look for my DIY cupcake display stands, I opted to paint a white base coat to add to a good distressed effect.
Step Five. Once fully coated and dry, paint your stands! I just love this Vintage Gray-Green chalk paint color so I painted them all in the same color. You can also have them in different colors – that would be so fun!
I just love how customize-able these stands are! Paint them in different colors, or attach different base heights to different wood round sizes and you can pretty much have a colorful display of stands that you can use for any occasion! I think they’re great decor pieces too. Imagine how cute they would look on an open cupboard with your favorite decorations showcased on them!
