DIY-Cake-Topper-Crafts-UnleashedSupplies needed to make your own DIY cake topper:

Steps for painting the wooden doll wedding toppersStep 1. Sketch the top of the dress onto your female doll using your pencil.  On this one, I went with a v-neck.  You could easily keep it a very modest dress too, and have it go to the top (pictured further down in the post).

Step 2. Paint in your clothing.  I intentionally started with the clothing so I wouldn’t mess up their hair {hee-hee}.

Step 3. Sketch on the hair with your pencil.  Keep the eraser handy if you need to make any changes.

Step 4. Start with a finer paint brush to outline the hair lines, then fill in with a thicker paint brush.  You’ll do the same for your male wooden doll.

Painting the Male Painting the Hair on Male Wooden Cake TopperThe key is being patient with yourself and having fun in the process! I used my eraser time and time again…. and yet they still turned out pretty darn cute! You can have a lot of fun with color combinations and getting as creative as you want with the hairstyles and apparel.  Check out these handsome fellas!

Different Hair Style for Male Cake ToppersBefore you know it, you’ll have the happy couple ready to go!  As you can see, on one couple I dotted on their eyes, on the other I left them off.  It’s truly a matter of preference.  I like them both.

I finished up with a quick coat of a clear satin varnish, giving it that finished look and a little shine.

So cute!! The bride and groom could then put some screw-eyes in them and hang them on their first Christmas Tree (or use as some other decoration if they don’t celebrate Christmas)!
