Have a birthday coming up and your little one needs a fun birthday crown? This felt DIY mini crown is so easy to make and assemble, and very customizable to fit any theme or color scheme! See how I made it and make one for your little OR for yourself!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY mini crown:
- Stiff Felt in your color scheme (this Valentines pack is what I used)
- Glue Gun
- Template (Download Here)
- Mini Pompom Garland
- Nylon Sock or Headband
Step 1. Size and cut your crown parts in different colored felt. I used a light pink for the crown, a medium pink for the number and larger oval and white for the smaller oval. You can use scissors and cut carefully or you can use an electronic die cutting machine!
Step 2. Assemble the number oval using a glue gun. Make sure to center the number (or numbers) and oval against each other.
Step 3. Assemble the crown. Use the rectangle to connect the crown ends together. Hold firmly to make sure it doesn’t move while it dries.
Step 4. Attach the oval to the crown – I attached the oval on top of the seam to hide it, but you can definitely attach it onto the other side as well!
Step 5. Attach some trim to make it more fun! For this project, I used a white pom pom trim, but you can definitely customize it more and add some lace, sequins or even pearls and tulle to make your DIY mini crown look fancier.
Step 6. Optional. If you need a headband that wouldn’t hurt a baby’s head, creating your own nylon headband would be the best option. To do this, just cut a 1.5″ section of nylon from a nylon sock or stocking in your color of choice. I used this brown one as that is what I had on hand – don’t worry, the sock is unused and clean!
Step 7. Finally, attach your crown onto your headband base. To do this, I stretched the nylon a bit before hot gluing it to the inside of the crown on two opposite points. If you are worried it would not be strong enough, you can also reinforce it by stitching it down as well.
And you are done! A DIY mini crown fit for a princess, prince or YOU! I would totally rock this for a future birthday.
