Do you hear the bells? Wedding season is near! Acrylic wedding signs with painted backs are trending, so of course I had to try my hand at making one. This DIY project is easy and fun. Read on to learn how you can make them yourself! And if you’re not throwing a wedding, these trendy signs can also be purposed for any event.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY Acrylic Wedding Signs:
- Magnetic Acrylic Photo Frames
- Chalk Paint
- Wood Slice Holders
- Heat Gun
- Vinyl (your choice of color)
- Electric Die Cutter
Remove the magnetic backing of the photo frame by first heating it up with the heat gun and passing every area. Try not to stay in one area too long so as to not warp the acrylic, so once heated, pull the magnetic backing carefully along with the adhesive.
Heat the seam connecting the two flaps of the acrylic. We want to easily open and break it without damaging most of the acrylic piece. Once opened, carefully break the two sides and score about .5″ from the cracked end of the acrylic, heat both sides and break apart and you will be able to get 2 pieces of acrylic perfect for the signs!
Next, paint one side of the acrylic piece with chalk paint. I used a combination of dark charcoal and blue to create a light navy hue. Paint strokes diagonally, going in one direction so you have a cleaner look. Check the backside to see if you’ve missed any spots, and cover any spots you’ve missed. Once you’re satisfied with the way it looks on the on-painted side, simply wait for the paint to dry.
While you’re waiting for the paint to dry, cut out your letters with vinyl on your die-cutter and weed the middles of the letters and surrounding areas of the text.
Transfer the lettering onto the smooth side of the acrylic sign and pull off the transfer sheet. Alternatively, you can skip steps 4-5 and just letter your text onto the smooth side of the acrylic piece using a paint marker – I love this one for lettering!
Place your sign into a pre-made wood slice and you’re done!
Turn these acrylic wedding signs into any kind of sign including table number signs, signature drink signs and more. You can also play around with using different colors for the back or the lettering to match the color scheme of your event! What would you use these signs for?
